Technology is a part of the daily lives of the students we serve. Therefore, it is imperative that student affairs professionals incorporate technology into their programs and services.  While I feel extremely comfortable in doing that, one of the greatest lessons I have learned is to be inclusive of people with disabilities when doing so. The California State University (CSU) System is adopting an Accessible Technology Initiative, which will guide all of the CSU campuses, including Cal Poly Pomona, to provide accessible information and resources to people with disabilities, particularly to those who have vision impairment. This initiative has raised my consciousness and awareness about this issue and broadens my commitment to diversity. Below is a PowerPoint presentation of a workshop I attended to learn how to create accessible PDF documents.  I will also be attending other workshops that address how to make websites and PowerPoint presentations more accessible.

I would like to present my capstone website as evidence of my  growth in the technology competency. While I tend to learn how to use most computer software easily, I had never attempted to create a website on FrontPage. It was a great experience developing the concept, designing the layout, communicating my ideas, and learning how to publish it online.

One of my priorities as Coordinator of the Cesar E. Chavez Center for Higher Education (CECCHE) has been to use the web as a tool to outreach and communicate with students because I know that it is important that we meet students where they are.  I have made great strides to make the center's website user-friendly and effective. Therefore, I would also like to present the CECCHE's website as evidence of growth in this area.

Throughout this website you will also find evidence of my ability to use other forms of technology, such as PowerPoint and Adobe PDF.

Being part of the Summer Track College Student Affairs program and not having physical access to my cohort, professors, and academic (library) resources has challenged me to learn how to use the internet, eCollege, and other electronic resources to obtain articles and get the information I need to complete my course work. One of my favorite resources is Google Scholar. While I do not always find the full-text articles in this database, it provides me with an overview of what articles I may find in other databases such as ERIC, First Search, among others.

I would also like to present a demographics quiz I completed for CSA 562: Today's College Students as evidence of growth in this area, since this assignment required me to search multiple national online statistical databases to answer the questions.
